Our Oil Immersed HC Brake could soon be working in one of the worlds most challenging power transmissions environments: deep under the sea. Rotech and Lunar Energy have been working together to create an innovative new undersea turbine, and there will be a Wichita brake integral to its design.
-No gearbox, yawing mechanism or blade pitch mechanism
-Duct straightens flow and reduces size of moving parts
-Sub-sea units produce hydraulic energy
-All electrical equipment is housed in a hermetically sealed removable chamber
-Mathematical predictions have been verified by scale model testing
-DTI funding has been obtained for 1 MW prototype
-Installation of 1 MW prototype is planned for 2006
Wichita was chosen because of their long and proven track record in the supply of heavy-duty Clutch and Brake solutions to the industrial sector. Another significant factor contributing to our involvement in such a prestigious project is our commitment to design flexibility, an essential prerequisite in this type of specialised application.
